NLA Wellness Challenge

Join the NLA in promoting heart-healthy lifestyle habits by engaging in various wellness activities and friendly competition with your peers during one or both of two Challenge Sessions this Summer. Share your experience on social media.


NLA Wellness Challenge Session #1 starts Friday July 9, 00:01 EDT and runs through Tuesday August 16, 23:59 EDT.




NLA Wellness Challenge Session #2: Thursday August 19, 00:01 EDT through Sunday, September 26, 23:59 EDT.

Participants can track their steps using their own personal Fitbit, Apple Watch, Garmin, or the step trackers integrated on their iPhone/Android smartphone via Apple Health or Google Fit. *

1) Download the Heka Well Challenge app: 
2) Launch the Heka Well app and select NLA Wellness Challenge from the list.
 
3) Complete the registration, user profile and pairing process:
  • Register: Create an account. Enter your email and a password. (If you already have a NLA Challenge account, you may use your existing login credentials)
  • User Profile: Choose a Nickname, your Chapter and a distance unit
  • Pair a Tracker: See the Challenge FAQ Webpage for details) 
4) Start Stepping!
  • To sync your step data to the app, select Tap to sync steps at the top of the dashboard
  • Note that your steps will only count from the time you first pair your step tracker
  • Please sync your step data at least one time a day as some data sources will not provide step data that is over 24 hours old

BONUS ACTIVITIES

 

Work your way up the Challenge Leaderboard and compete for prizes both by walking and taking advantage of Bonus Activities to earn step boosts! 

 

Once the Challenge has started, select the Bonus Activities ** icon to:

  • Scan-In: Locate the QR codes at the following locations, tap Scan-In and scan the QR, or enter a code manually, for the indicated bonus.

    • Heart-Healthy Recipes: Download Recipe Cards here Low-Fat Cookbook: Learn Your Lipids and scan the QR in the pop-up for 5000 bonus steps, once per Session.

    • Participant Surveys: Complete an on-line survey (location to be announced) on after July 26 and scan in the QR once during Challenge Session #1 for 5000 bonus steps. (Survey availability for Session #2 TBD.)

    • Wellness Challenge Booth (Sept 24-26 only): Find the QR code at the NLA 2021 Scientific Sessions Wellness Challenge Booth on-site or on the virtual platform. Scan in once for 5000 bonus steps.​ (Boost available during Challenge Session #2 only)

    • Special Events (Sept 24-26 only): Stay tuned for announcements of Special Events during the NLA 2021 Scientific Sessions to scan-in for bonus steps. (Boosts available during Challenge Session 2, September 24-26 only)
       

  • Yoga: Focus on releasing tension, connecting with the breath, and gaining strength, flexibility and a centering of the mind. Watch the video daily and receive 500 bonus steps (limit of one bonus per day).​

  • Twitter:  Use the in-app Twitter module to take and post photos of meals made with your downloaded Heart-Healthy Recipes, or of yourself stepping or staying healthy in other ways! Tweets are pre-filled with hashtag #NLAWellness and the handle @nationallipidTweet up to twice per day for a 500-step bonus each time (max 1,000 per day).
     

  • Facebook:  Use the in-app Facebook module to take and post photos of meals made with your downloaded Heart-Healthy Recipes, or of yourself stepping or staying healthy in other ways! Posts are pre-filled with hashtag #NLAWellness. Share up to twice per day for 500-step bonus each time (max 1,000 per day)

INCENTIVES AND PRIZES

Step Level Goals: Challenge yourself to reach the following Step Levels set for each of the two Challenge Sessions. Participants who reach the levels by the end of each Challenge will be entered into the drawings for the indicated prizes, one winner per level each Challenge. Steps may be accumulated both by walking and by earning Bonus Activity boosts (see above).

Level 1: 240,000 steps (~6,000 steps/day including boosts)

Prize Session #1: Calm App (12 month membership)

Prize Session #2: Headspace (12 month membership)

Level 2: 530,000 steps (~13,500 steps/day including boosts)

Prize Session #1: Thrive Market (12 month membership & $50 shopping credit)

Prize Session #2: Thrive Market (12 month membership & $50 shopping credit)

Top Steppers: The stepper at the top of the Leaderboard at the end of each Session, and the cumulative top stepper across both Sessions will win prizes. The Leaderboard will be cleared for a fresh start at the beginning of Challenge #2 on August 19th.
 

  • The participant who is the Top Stepper on the Leaderboard at the end of each Challenge Session will receive:

Prize Session #1: Online Fitness/Yoga (12 month membership) & Apple Home Pod mini.

Prize Session #2: Air Pods Pro & Apple Home Pod Mini​

  • The participant with the most cumulative steps across both Challenge Sessions (July 9 - Sep 26) will win: Apple Watch. (One winner)

Chapter Leaders: The Chapter with the most average steps per member on the Chapter Leaderboard at the end of each Challenge Session will be recognized for bragging rights!

Winners will be notified by email after the end of each Challenge Session

CHALLENGE LEADERBOARD

 

The Leaderboard, also available in the Heka Well app, displays the Top 25 steppers, then the Top 5 Chapters. It is refreshed every 10-15 minutes after the Challenge begins on July 9. The Leaderboard will be cleared at the beginning of Challenge Session #2 on August 19 to accommodate new participants. Steps are not carried over from Challenge Session #1 on the Leaderboard. Cumulative totals including both Sessions will be reported weekly on this page during Session #2.
